(Cleveland) – Ariel Castro could be in court as early as Friday morning in connection with a plea bargain said to have been offered by Cuyahoga County prosecutors.
A prosecutor spokesperson contacted by WTAM 1100 would not confirm or deny the reports, but various media, including WKYC-TV, are reporting that prosecutors offered a plea deal to Castro on Thursday, and that Castro could enter a plea as early as Friday.
The suspected kidnapper and rapist of Gina De Jesus, Michelle Knight and Amanda Berry has been indicted on 977 counts. The counts also include aggravated murder, for causing the death of an unborn baby being carried by one of the three women. The prosecutor’s office was still in the process of deciding whether to go after the death penalty against Castro in connection with the counts of aggravated murder.
Castro is accused of holding the women captive at his house on Seymour Avenue for an entire decade. Berry, De Jesus and Knight have all since kept a low profile since being rescued in May, coming forward only a few weeks ago to speak on a video produced by a local PR firm on their behalf.
