(Cleveland) - The attorney for Cleveland kidnapper Ariel Castro says he's reached out to the family after learning of Castro's suicide through the media.
Craig Weintraub tells NBC's "Today" show it's disappointing and disturbing that he and the family received the news that way.
Castro hanged himself in his prison cell at the Correctional Reception Center in Orient last night.
The 53-year-old former school bus driver was sentenced last month to life, plus a thousand years in prison for kidnapping, raping, and torturing Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight.
