(Sochi) - Three athletes from the Greater Cleveland area are participating in the Winter Games.
Brianne McLaughlin of Sheffield Village is TEAM USA Women’s Hockey goaltender.
McLaughlin also competed in the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games and says, “For me, it was a bummer losing that game…I understand it better now….some of those players spent 4 years, 15 years trying to win a gold medal…to lose it in one game is devastating. We have to remind ourselves of that”.
McLaughlin explains she has been working extremely hard to make sure that doesn’t happen again.
Kelli Stack of Brooklyn Heights is a forward on TEAM USA Women’s Hockey. She says, “I think about Cleveland and the people who helped me get to this position before the game in the hotel…once I get in the locker room it’s all business….there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about my hometown.”
Kelly Gunther is a TEAM USA Long track speed skater. The Lorain resident says this is her first time at the Winter Games and plans to just have fun with the experience.
Gunther reveals, “Do I want to win gold? Of course. Am I out of sight? I don’t know. Anything’s possible, We can never say no. That’s why I’m just going into it, going to have fun, and whatever happens, happens”.
Gunther explains that her dream is always to win a gold medal.
