(Columbus) - A clemency hearing is set for today for Harry Mitts Jr. The hearing will be held at the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction in Columbus.
Mitts is scheduled to be executed on September 25th at 10am. Back in 1994, Mitts shot and killed his 28 year old Garfield Heights neighbor John Bryant.
Prosecutors say it was a racially motivated attack. Mitts then took the life of responding police officer Sgt. Dennis Glivar. The 44 year old was hit by bullets 5 times.
Mitts is also convicted of the attempted murder of police Lt. Thomas Kaiser, and Officer John Mackey.
Mitts blamed alcohol for his crimes, and said he has turned his life over to Jesus Christ.
