Heinen's to open downtown Cleveland store

(Cleveland) – Downtown Cleveland is getting a grocery store!

Heinen's Fine Foods has announced plans for a 33,000-square-foot store in the former Ameritrust Building at East 9th and Euclid Ave.

It’s part of the transformation of the former Ameritrust complex into a hotel, apartments, offices and Cuyahoga County's new headquarters.

The store will fill the first two floors of the historic Rotunda and the first floor of the neighboring Swetland Building, at 1010 Euclid Ave.

“This is a big deal”, says Michael Deemer of the Downtown Cleveland Alliance. Deemer says with all the development downtown, you need someplace to get daily supplies.

Deemer tells WTAM 1100 this will anchor the redevelopment of that intersection.

Heinen’s co-owner Tom Heinen tells Newsradio WTAM 1100 downtown Cleveland is booming, and there may now be enough residents in the business district to support a grocery store.

Heinen says it will be a full service supermarket, but because most customers will be walking to the store, they will probably not sell large bulky items.

He believes their store may help attract even more residents to downtown Cleveland.
