(Cleveland) - Cuyahoga County officials say they have more work to do to beat the heroin epidemic. Medical Examiner Thomas Gilson says the ongoing crackdown on the deadly drug will now treat every overdose death like a crime scene.
Local and federal prosecutors say they'll also go after heroin dealers, with upgraded charges filed after overdose deaths. Efforts have so far targeted heroin users, helping reduce the death rate so far this year to the lowest in three years.
U.S. Attorney Steven Dettlebach says the new heroin enforcement effort is a solution that could have a large impact. Dettlebach says prosecutors will go after heroin dealers with upgraded charges.
