Innerbelt Bridge "gap" to close this week

Innerbelt Bridge

(Cleveland) - It's a big week in the history of the new Innerbelt Bridge.

Abbey Ave. will be closed for two weeks as crew close the gap, completing the span.

Motorists may detour using the Innerbelt and Lorain-Carnegie Bridges, or by using W 11th Street, Willey Avenue and Columbus Road.
The one-way frontage road which connects W 14th Street with Abbey Avenue will also be closed, so motorists can use West 11th Street instead. Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to pass through the area using a designated path through the work zone.

Restaurants, boutiques, galleries and all types of establishments remain open for business.

ODOT's Jocelynn Clemings says there are a number of “pieces” that will be lifted into place to close the gap over Abbey.

"If you look down the length of the bridge," says Clemings, "There are five places where the steel touches down on the concrete support piers. Those are called girder lines."

To close the gap over Abbey Avenue, there will be two pieces of steel to connect each girder line (so 10 in total).

The first pieces will likely go up Tuesday with the last piece likely going up Friday!
