Lakewood church looking for stolen communion items

(Lakewood) -- Prayers are going out at a Lakewood church from where two items used during Sunday services were stolen.

Rev. Mark Rollenhagen, pastor of the Faith Lutheran Church on Hilliard Road, says someone broke into the church last week and stole the chalice and ciborium used for communion. The chalice is used to hold wine, and the ciborium to hold bread.

Rollenhagen tells The Plain Dealer, "They probably don't have a lot of value in metal," but there is some sentimental value. He says the items were donated about 20 years ago by a family whose name is engraved on the chalice. Rollenhagen puts replacement value in the thousands of dollars.

The church has put out a wanted poster with photos of the stolen items. If you have seen them, contact Lakewood Police at 216-521-6773 or the church at 216-226-6500.
