MetroHealth to build health center in Brecksville/Broadview Heights

(Brecksville) – The MetroHealth System signed a development agreement to build a new health center at the intersection of Route 82 and I-77.

The health center will address the needs of the surrounding communities. The health center will offer a comprehensive outpatient facility, similar to the newly-opened Middleburg Heights center, and may include a free-standing emergency room, advanced diagnostics (CT & MRI,) wellness center and ambulatory surgery center.

The development agreement states MetroHealth will purchase approximately 21 acres of property, at the price of $3.5M. The city of Brecksville has agreed to pay MetroHealth an incentive amount of $2.25M towards the purchase. The property is primarily located in the city of Brecksville.

Both the City of Brecksville and the City of Broadview Heights have collaborated extensively to make the proposed center a reality. Because the property lies in both cities, Mayor Samuel J. Alai of Broadview Heights and Mayor Jerry N. Hruby of Brecksville, along with their respective city councils, agreed on a tax share agreement, allowing both cities to benefit from any potential income taxes from development of the site.

“We are thrilled to announce this partnership. We see this as another important step to serve more residents of Cuyahoga County, our home,” said Akram Boutros, MD, FACHE, President and CEO of MetroHealth. “Our expanded ambulatory network helps us provide greater access for patients, and catalyze the transformation from acute care to comprehensive care. It is clear with the extraordinary success of the Middleburg Heights November Family Health Center, which opened in July 2013, that there’s significant demand for our patient-centered, high-value approach to care.”

“Today’s signing of an agreement with MetroHealth is the beginning of what I know will be a great relationship between an outstanding health system and our community, the community of Broadview Heights and those communities surrounding our area,” said Hruby. “We look forward to bringing outstanding healthcare, emergency services, and the other amenities that will be provided by MetroHealth- giving us a much-needed group of services.”

“A project of this magnitude belongs in a high visibility area at the interstate and will be central to both communities, reducing response times for life saving emergency care,” said Alai. “This state of the art regional facility is the product of multiple public and private entities working together. It has been a pleasure working with Mayor Hruby and sharing the vision of wellness for our communities.”

MetroHealth currently is solidifying the programs and timeline for the opening of the health center. Announcements of additional services will be made when more information is available.
