Remains confirmed as Christina Adkins

(Cleveland)- The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner confirms that remains found last Friday are those of Christina Adkins.

Positive identification was made through DNA and proper next of kin notification was made. Adkins was 18 and pregnant when she went missing 1995.

49-year-old Elias Acevedo, Sr. has already been indicted in Adkins murder.

Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Tim McGinty said Thursday that Acevedo is also charged with the 1994 murder of of his neighbor, Pamela Pemberton. McGinty says the FBI Violent Crime Task Force determined that Acevedo was the killer in that case.

Acevedo has been charged with 293 counts, including four counts of aggravated murder in the deaths of Pemberton and at least one unidentified woman. That victim, we now know, is Adkins.

Acevedo is also accused 178 counts of rape with five victims.

Acevedo was arrested on June 11 by members of a U.S. Marshals Task force. DNA matched Acevedo to an attack on June 6, 1993, at West 7th and Quigley.

According to that indictment, the victim went with a man she knew to go looking for her boyfriend. She reported that the man then strangled her until she was unconscious and raped her twice in a field.

Acevedo was indicted just three days before the statute of limitations on the rape expired. Court records revealed the he has been treated for a mental disorder.
