(Cleveland) -- The Cleveland Division of Police Use of Deadly Force Investigation team is investigating a shooting involving a Geneva-on-the-Lake police officer late Thursday night, in which a man was shot dead.
Sgt. Sammy Morris of the Cleveland police says the shooting occurred at 1435 East Boulevard, where the police officer was working a second job for a private security agency.
The preliminary investigation reveals that the officer went to check on a large group of people creating a disturbance in the hallway area of an apartment building. Upon investigating the group of individuals, the officer saw a man and woman struggling.
The man pointed a gun at the officer. The officer observed the laser point of the man’s gun on his lower extremities. The officer ordered the man to drop the weapon, which he refused to do. The officer then fired at the suspect. The suspect died on scene.
The Cleveland Division of Police Use of Deadly Force Investigation Team responded to the scene for investigation along with the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office.
