(Youngstown) -- Could the next stop for former Ohio State head football coach Jim Tressel be the president's office at Youngstown State University? A group of prominent community members in Youngstown are hoping that's the case.
YSU is looking for a new president, and a group of Youngstown-area community leaders have written to the YSU Board of Trustees asking that they consider Tressel for the job. It would be a homecoming for Tressel, who was YSU's head football coach before heading to Ohio State.
U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan (D, Niles), who is leading the effort, admits that Tressel's academic record is not extensive, but says the former coach has strong leadership skills, vision, and an ability to build collaborations. Tressel is currently an administrator at the University of Akron, holding the title of Vice President for Student Success, and reports directly to U of Akron's president.
The YSU Board of Trustees is looking for a replacement for President Randy Dunn, who announced this week he's leaving to become president of Southern Illinois University.
