(Cleveland) - Major work on was the new Innerbelt Bridge was completed today.

Crews erected the first two of 10 large girders to make the closure over Abbey Avenue in Cleveland's Tremont neighborhood. Residents watched as ironworkers did their tasks high above ground.

Jocelynn Clemings of the Ohio Department of Transportation says everything went as planned, and they hope to have the remaining 8 major girders in place on Friday for the new westbound I-90 Innerbelt Bridge.

She tells Newsradio WTAM 1100 that work was pushed back from earlier in the week because rain, wind, and storms.

Workers will continue to make smaller steel connections over the next two weeks, with Abbey Avenue remaining closed until it’s done.

The $293 bridge is the biggest project in Ohio Department of Transpiration history. A second bridge is expected to cost $293 million and is to be completed in the fall of 2016.
