Which Ohio teams do you support?

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN) -- A new poll of Ohioans shows that the Buckeye State is evenly divided among pro-sports teams in Cleveland and Cincinnati and that Ohio State fans are lining up behind football coach Urban Meyer.

The poll from Public Policy Polling, which normally does political polls, found that 68 percent of Ohioans say they root for the scarlet and gray. Before last season Buckeye fans were nearly evenly split over who should be the coach, Jim Tressel or Urban Meyer, but that split is now gone.

"Now after the undefeated season Meyer has a 55-22 advantage on that question, so folks at this point getting pretty content with Meyer," said Tom Jensen, the polling firm's director.

Ohio State fans still like Tressel though. 62 percent give him a favorable rating while 72 percent say they approve of the job Meyer is doing.

The once popular president of the university, Gordon Gee, has slipped since his comments about Catholics and SEC schools. Only 22 percent of Ohioans polled say they have a favorable opinion of Gee.

"Even with Ohio State fans he's only narrowly positive 32-26," Jensen said.

When it comes to pro-sports the state tips north to the Cleveland Browns with 36 percent of Ohioans saying they are fans. While Bengals fans only get a quarter of the state's football fans in the poll, 43 percent of those polled say the orange and black will have a better season.

We've also seen a flip among Ohio's baseball fans. Two years ago the Indians held the advantage, but Ohio is now Reds Country by a 32-26 percent margin, according the poll.

"It looks like a lot of people have sort of jumped on the Reds bandwagon since we asked about this a couple of years ago," said Jensen.

Another interesting development, LeBron James has seen his image repaired among Ohioans. His favorability rating has increased 18 percent over the past three years to 32 percent. It's the first time more people in the poll have liked him than hated him.
