(Cleveland) - Some members of the Cleveland Browns traded helmets and pads for tool belts Thursday.

As part of the “Hats Off to Our Heroes” program, they worked with Rebuilding Together Cleveland to revive a west side Cleveland home owned by a highly decorated Army veteran.

Browns players, staff and alumni helped landscape, paint and perform other home repair projects for a 69-year old homeowner who sustained numerous physical injuries during his military service in Vietnam that now require him to use a wheelchair.

During his service, he was awarded both the Bronze Star and the Soldiers Medal for Heroism.

The Browns’ “Hats Off To Heros” signature program recognizes and honors everyday local heroes, while creating an atmosphere of pride among fans.

The mission of Rebuilding Together Cleveland is to preserve and revitalize houses and communities, assuring that low-income homeowners, who are elderly, disabled and families with children, live in warmth, safety and independence.

Players that made time for the event included Colt McCoy, Brandon Jackson, Mohamed Massaquoi, Jordan Cameron, Alex Mack,Carlton Mitchell, Scott Paxson, and Austin Engish.
