Chris Perez under investigation after suspected marijuana delivered to his home

(CLEVELAND) – Indians closer Chris Perez was scheduled to resume throwing Wednesday following a shoulder injury that sidelined him for a week, but now he has other issues to deal with; this time off the field.

Sources confirmed to WTAM 1100 that Perez received a significant amount of suspected marijuana delivered to the house he and his wife are renting at 19850 Parklane Drive in Rocky River, Ohio on Tuesday, June 4.

Shortly after the delivery Rocky River police conducted a search warrant and evidence was obtained. Police confirmed on Wednesday that an “illegal substance” had been taken in for testing, and that it was believed to be marijuana.

Police confirmed at a press conference Wednesday that no charges had been filed and no arrest had been made during this ongoing investigation.

The package that contained the substance came to Perez’s residence via the regular U.S. Mail according to police.

The team released the following statement regarding the incident: “Earlier this morning we were made aware of a situation involving RHP Chris Perez that occurred yesterday in Rocky River,” said Cleveland Indians GM Chris Antonetti.  “We have talked with Chris and are currently in the process of gathering additional information.  We will not have any additional comment at this time.”

Rocky River Police said the West Shore Enforcement Bureau and the US Postal Service were also involved in the investigation.

Perez is not currently with the Indians as they are in the midst of a nine-game road trip that will seem them wrap up their series Wednesday in New York against the Yankees, before traveling to Detroit to open up a three-game weekend series with the Tigers.
