Kipnis named AL Player of the Week

(CLEVELAND) – Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis enjoyed a memorable month of June and he is being recognized for it again. On Monday afternoon Major League Baseball announced that Kipnis won the American League Player of the Week Award.

It is Kipnis’ second career AL-Player of the Week honor and his second for the month of June when he and teammate Corey Kluber won the award on June 17.

Kipnis hit .478 this past week in seven games, while also racking up three home runs, four doubles, 10 RBIs and nine runs scored during his torrid stretch. The second-year second baseman for the Tribe hit over .400 for the month of June.

Despite an off day, the Indians now own a half-game lead over Detroit in the Central Division as the Blue Jays topped the Tigers Monday afternoon 8-3.

This is the first time since May 20 that the Indians have been in first place atop the AL-Central.
