High Flying Car Crash

Car goes airborne and hits apartment building between third and fourth floors.

    Police and accident reconstruction experts are investigating a violent overnight wreck that killed a Mentor man.

    The accident happened at the apartment building on Lake Shore Blvd. in Willowick.
  •  
    Willowick Police Lt. Paul Pallente says a vehicle hit a grass embankment and flew more than 170 feet before hitting the side of an apartment building at the Shoregate Towers complex on Lake Shore Boulevard.

    The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Carmen Ritacco of Mentor.

    Pallente says Ritacco was traveling West on Vine Street early this morning, crossed Lake Shore Boulevard, hit a grass embankment, and went airborne.

    The vehicle hit the south side of the east building at Shoregate Towers between the 3rd and 4th floor. The vehicle bounced off the building and landed in the parking lot.

    Pallente says Rittacco was the only person in the vehicle and no one in the building or on the ground was hurt.
